Our Process
Discover the journey of every Shyrdak—from soft, raw wool to vibrant patterns that tell the story of Kyrgyz life. More than a rug, each piece is living heritage.
Sourcing the Raw Materials
Each Shyrdak begins its journey high in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. The wool comes from free-range, grass-fed sheep, tended in harmony with nature, yielding the softest, highest-quality fibers for every rug.
Preparing the Wool
The sheep are carefully sheared, and the wool is thoroughly cleaned, readying it for the next stage of transformation.
Making the Felt
The cleaned wool is layered, soaked, rolled, and pressed until it transforms into dense, durable felt—the foundation of every piece.
Cutting the Patterns
Once the felt is ready, artisans carefully trace and cut intricate geometric patterns. Each design carries symbolic meaning, reflecting nature, family, and Kyrgyz nomadic traditions.
Stitching the Pieces
The cut pieces are hand-stitched together with precision. This meticulous work ensures the patterns align perfectly and the rug is strong enough to last generations.
Final Touches
The finished piece is carefully inspected, brushed, and labeled. What emerges is a vibrant, one-of-a-kind masterpiece—a rug that is both functional and a living piece of Kyrgyz heritage.
